Networked Department - Network Admin Setup

Problem/Question

Recommended Windows 11 network configuration for Ergosoft Networked Department (formerly Sequoia).

Solution/Work-Around

The following instructions should be carried out by a network and PC administrator!
Ergosoft accepts no liability or responsibility for correctness and completeness.

Workgroup/Domain

Assign the same workgroup name for all PCs.
  1. Click on Start > Enter "Change workgroup name".
  2. Open Control Panel App
  3. Click <Change> button

IP address

Use static IPs for all PCs and printers (recommended).
  1. Go to Windows Settings > Network and Internet > Ethernet
  2. Click "Change adapter option"
  3. Select network connection > right mouse button > Properties
  4. Select Internet Protocol, Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties
  5. Select Manual Input

PC-Name

Each PC should have its own unique name.
  1. Go to Windows Settings > System > About
  2. Click <Rename this PC>
  3. Assign a unique name (e.g., ND-Master, ND-Client-01, ND-Client-02, ...)

Network Profile

Should be set to Private (default) on all PCs.
  1. Go to Windows Settings > Network and Internet > Status
  2. Click the <Property> button under the active network connection
  3. Set network profile to "Private"

Network Detection

Enable detection on all PCs.
  1. Go to Windows Settings > Network and Internet > Ethernet
  2. Click on "Change advanced sharing options"
  3. In the sharing options in the private profile (should be marked as current), switch on <network discovery>
  4. In addition, check the box "Automatic setup of devices..."
  5. Save the change (admin password may be required)

File Sharing

Read/write access for the Shared Storage folder must be granted on all PCs.
  1. Create a Shared Storage folder on the Master PC or a NAS.
  2. Select properties for the new folder via the right mouse button
  3. Go to the TAB "Sharing" and click the <Share> button
  4. Select and add a share for "Everyone" in the dropdown menu.
  5. Assign "Read & Write" permissions

Shared Storage folder

Must be available at all times for all workstations in the network.
  1. Go to Windows File Explorer > Network
  2. Select the PC (name) on which the shared storage folder is located
  3. Log in with user and password
  4. Select the shared storage folder with the right mouse button
  5. Select "Connect network drive"
  6. Select free drive letter
  7. Click the checkbox "Reconnect on login"
