Networked Department Limitations

Problem/Question
Ergosoft Networked Department (formerly Sequoia) has some limitations that are important for installation and use.

Solution/Work-Around
Installation
  1. Master and all Clients must use the same build version
  2. 64-bit and 32-bit installations in combination are possible
  3. Only the one dongle works (additional local dongles lead to errors)
Network
  1. Computers must be located within the same work group or domain
  2. Shared Storage folder needs read/write access
  3. Spool folder needs read/write access
Setup
  1. Virtual Machines are not officially supported
  2. VPN is not officially supported
  3. Print Environments works only locally created
Options
  1. User Level Management can only be administered on the master station
  2. Processing Policies
    1. Archiving is only executed on the master
    2. Archiving remote RIP data only from a located network share
    3. Archiving remote Images only from a located network share
Features
  1. Get Media Size from Printer only works on local machines
  2. Print and Measure only supported if the JobComposer used is started on the same station as the PrintQueue/Rip required
  3. Linearization, ColorGPS, and Named Colors will be available only on the same machine where the PrintEnvironment was created
For bigger production sites with a lot of active printers, we recommend going for two Sequoia departments, meaning to have two Master stations, divide the Clients into two departments, and assign them to the Master stations.
