A Preset can be thought of as a predefined setting that can be applied to an Image, Job or the RIP itself. If you find yourself performing the same operation frequently, e.g. scaling an image to a certain size, you might want to save that operation as a Preset. Once a Preset is saved, it can be applied either automatically to every Image or Job, or it can be applied manually simply by selecting it from a dropdown menu in the respective dialog. You’ll find the Preset setting as a dropdown menu at the top of most feature dialogs.
You can even bundle multiple Presets into a so called Composite Preset that combines several settings and applies them in one go.
As an example, if you find yourself regularly applying a certain scaling, rotation and crop to the images you print, you can set up an Image Preset that bundles these three edits. With the Preset saved, you can either have these settings automatically applied to every image that is imported into the JobComposer, or you can manually assign them by simply selecting the image, then selecting your Image Preset from the Image Preset dropdown menu.

Represents the default settings of the RIP. By using RIP Presets in Tools > Application Defaults, you can easily switch between different sets of RIP configurations and defaults for different Applications. For example if you know you are going to need a certain set of ColorManagement settings for one Print Application, and another for a different Printer, it can make sense to create an Application Preset for each so you can easily switch between them without having to change each parameter by hand.
The first dialog you see when opening Application Defaults is Preference. It shows you the currently selected Composite Preset for your RIP settings and a summary of the settings used in the Preset. From the dropdown menu at the top you can easily switch between different Composite Presets to change your RIP default settings on the Fly.
To create a new Composite Preset for your Application Defaults, first make the adjustments you like in their respectice tabs in Application Defaults, and make sure to save your settings as Presets for every dialog by clicking the green + next to the dialog (Custom Settings are not saved in Composite Presets). Once you completed the changes, go to the Preferences tab and click the Green + to save your current combination of Presets as a Composite Preset. Give it a descriptive name and confirm with Ok.
To switch between existing RIP presets, simply navigate to the Tab for the setting you want to change the preset for. Look for the dropdown menu at the top of the page and use it to switch between Presets.
Many features of the ErgoSoft RIP come with some preconfigured Presets that cover common applications such as standard media sizes in Media Format or common Color Management standards in ColorManagement.
To create a RIP Preset, open the Tab with the setting you want to adjust. By default, the dropdown menu at the top will say (None), meaning that currently no Preset is active and the settings in the dialog itself will be greyed out and inaccessible.
So first, open the dropdown menu at the top and switch to Custom Settings. This will make the settings in the dialog accessible. Change the settings as needed. Finally, click the green + button next to the dropdown menu to create a new Preset with the current settings. Note that this Preset will only affect the settings in this tab, other tabs are unaffected, but you can save different combinations of Presets across Tabs by using a Composite Preset (See Preferences and Composite Presets above).
If you just want to adjust specific
settings on the fly but not use save them as a Preset, simply navigate to the
Tab for the setting you want to change. Look for the dropdown menu at the top
of the page and use it to switch to Custom
Settings.
This will allow you to edit the settings in the Dialog and will save and apply
your setting when confirming with Ok. However it will not save the settings in
a Preset.
You can freely change the settings at any time when using Custom Settings, but the settings are saved and overwritten when confirming with Ok. It’s a great option if you find yourself regularly experimenting with settings or switching small details regularly, but it does not give you a save state to fall back to.
Presets dealing with image specific
Properties and Actions such as scaling, rotating, crop, color replacement, etc.
If you find yourself performing the same operation frequently, e.g. scaling an
image to a specific size you might want to save that operation as a Preset.
Once a Preset is saved, it can be applied either automatically to every
imported image, or it can be applied manually simply by selecting it from a
dropdown menu in the respective dialog. Note that some features do not have an
individual Preset option. If you are not seeing a Preset dropdown menu at the
top of the dialog, this feature can only be adressed using a Composite Image
Preset.
You can access Image Presets in the Job Properties & Actions dialog usually situated to the right of the JobComposer Workspace. If Job Properties are currently displayed, make sure to select an Image in the Job to switch over to the Image Properties & Actions.
In this article we will mainly deal with Presets and how to use them, you can find more information on the individual Image Properties here.
You’ll find the Preset setting as a

Settings.

To create an Image Preset, access Job Properties & Actions and navigate to the feature you want to create a Preset for. In most of these dialogs you’ll find a dropdown menu at the top that lets you select between different, predefined Presets. To use one of the existing ones, simply select it and click the Apply button to use this Preset on the currently selected image.
To create a new Preset, select Custom Settings, then make your adjustments as desired. When you are satisfied, click the green + button next to the dropdown menu. Enter a name for your new Preset in the prompt that appears and confirm with Ok. This will save your Preset and you can then access and apply it at any time.
Composite Image Presets are a collection of several Image Presets that are bundled together so they can be applied all at once. For example if you find yourself scaling images to a specific size and cropping them regularly, you can create a Composite Image Preset that contains both these operations and apply them with one click.
To create a Composite Image Preset, look for the Image Presets dropdown menu in the Toolbar and click the Image Preset Icon next to it. This will open the Image Preset dialog where you’ll find the same settings as in the Image Properties & Actions pane.
To change a setting, navigate to the appropriate tab and toggle the On/Off button at the top left of the page. Adjust your settings as desired (You can of course also adjust settings in multiple tabs, these will all go into the same Composite Preset) and confirm with Ok. You will then be prompted to set a name for the Preset. Enter a name and confirm with Ok. This will save the preset and make it selectable.
From this point on, if the Preset is selected in the dropdown menu, it will automatically be applied to every new Job that is opened. To disable automatic applying, simply set the dropdown menu to None.
In order to apply a Preset on the currently
open Job, Right-Click on an empty area in the Job and navigate to Image Preset in the context menu. From
there you can select any Image Preset and apply it directly to the current Job.

If you just want to adjust specific
settings on the fly but not use save them as a Preset, simply navigate to the

directly edit the settings in the dialog as there is no Preset dropdown menu.

to Custom Settings.
To apply your setting simply confirm with Apply. This will apply you settings
to the Job, but will not save them in a Preset.

Using Job Presets to set
Selecting Job Presets on Job Creation
By default, Ergosoft RIP will apply the Job Preset that is currently active when a new Job is created. It’s also possible to set the JobComposer behavior to ask on every new Job which Job Preset should be used. Together with features such as selecting Print Environment, Cut Environment, Position Template and Image Presets within a Job Preset, this creates powerful possibilities for automation as you can apply whole workflows to the job directly when it is created.
When an Image Preset is set inside the Job Preset, activating the Job Preset will automatically also active the Image Preset. The Image Preset is then applied to any image that is imported into the Job. It is of course also possible to manually change the Image Preset again after it was set by the Job Preset.
To activate Job Preset selection on Job creation, go to Tools > Application Defaults > User Preferences and under Ask for Infos when creating a new job, activate the option Ask to select Job Preset. With this active when you create a new Job, a popup will appear asking you to select the Job Preset that you want to apply.
