Positioning Images

Positioning Images

Positioning allows to automatically or numerically set the location of images within a printjob. This can be useful to save media, to print the image on an exact distance to another image, or other application reasons.
Positioning can be set either by simply clicking and dragging the image to the desired position in the job, numerically by entering exact values in the currently set measurement unit of the RIP (cm, mm, inch, pt, etc.) in Properties/Positioning, or by using one of the automatic alignment buttons in Properties/Positioning.

Simple Positioning/Drag and Drop

Drag one or multiple selected images with the mouse.

Drag and Drop can also be used to move an image from one job to another by right clicking on the Job name tab, opening a new tab group (Either horizontal or vertical) to show both jobs and then dragging an image from one job to another.

Pressing Shift while dragging will force a position adjacent to another image in the job.

Pressing Ctrl while dragging will leave the original image at its place and instead create a copy of the image at the new position.

Numerical Input

Positions the selected image in a set distance from the left and top borders of the job. Numerical input positioning can be access through  Positioning on the Properties window and the toolbar, or the V key.

Positioning Adjoining another Image

Drag image with the mouse, hold down Shift key while releasing left mouse button.

Automatic Alignment

The RIP offers several automatic alignment modes that will automatically position an image in a job or several images relative to each other.

Job Position: Aligns a single image to one of the Job edges or the center of the job. Note that some options like overall centering are only available for sheet media when the mode is set to “Page” and are disable/greyed out if a Roll media is currently selected.

The automatic alignment options can be applied either relative to page, or relative to the current selection by switching the radio buttons for “Page” and “Selection” in the lower part of the dialog.

Align Multiple Images Horizontally

The bottom horizontal row of Icons shows several alignment options for multiple images.

Align Left Will align all images to the left edge of the Job, keeping their current vertical position. Note that this may overlay images at the same height.

alignright Will align all images to the right edge of the Job, keeping their current vertical position. Note that this may overlay images at the same height.

Align Center Will align all images to the horizontal center of the Job, keeping their current vertical position. Note that this may overlay images at the same height.

Align Hozrizontal Flush Will align all images have their right and left edges flush to each other, while keeping their vertical position. Note that this may overlay images at the same height.

Distribute Will align all images across the full width of the job while keeping all images the same distance from each other.

Align Multiple Images Vertically

The right hand vertical row of icons shows several horizontal alignment options for multiple images.

Align Top Will align all images to the top edge of the job.

Align Bottom Will align all images to the bottom edge of the job (Only available for sheet media or when applied to selection).

Align Vertical Center Will align all images to the vertical center of the job, while keeping their horizontal position (Only available for sheet media or when applied to selection).

Align Vertical Flush Icon Will align all images have their top and bottom edges flush to each other, while keeping their horizontal position. Note that this may overlay images at the same height.

Distribute Vertical Icon Will align all images across the full height of the job while keeping all images the same distance from each other vertically (Only available for sheet media or when applied to selection).

Checking “Allow Overlap” will allow Elements to Overlap through the automatic positioning modes. Note that this may place images on top of each other.
