Crop Images

Crop Images

The crop dialog allows to cut out part of the currently selected image, discarding the rest. Crop can be defined either manually by dragging a selection in the preview window, or numerically by entering exact coordinates or percentages to cut out.

Crop can be accessed by selecting an image in the job and going to Properties/ Crop Icon Crop or by pressing the C key on the Keyboad.

Crop by Image Preset

Crop can also be done through a predefined Image Preset the defines the crop size and position  To use a Preset, select it from the “Crop Preset” dropdown menu and click “Apply”.
You may also create a new Crop Preset on the fly by clicking the Add Preset Icon Icon next to the dropdown menu. For more information on Image Format Presets, see Image Presets.

Manual Cropping

To crop manually, select an Image and go to Properties/Crop. The Preview window below the crop dialog will show a small preview of the selected image. Using the mouse, select the desired area of the image that you would like to cut out by holding left click and dragging in any direction.

After a selection has been made through manual selection, it may also be refined through numerical adjustments.

Numerical Cropping

To crop numerically, select an Image and go to Properties/Crop. In the secion “Set Crop as” there are different modes available how the crop should be defined:

Center: Defines the edges of the rectangular crop area as distance from the image center. E.g. the value 10 cm and 10 cm will create a 10 by 10 cm square crop in the center of the image.

Edges: Defines the position of the rectangular crop area as distance from the top and left sides of the image while defining the size of the crop through width/height. E.g. the values Left: 10 cm, Top 10 cm, width 30 cm, height 30 cm will create a 30 by 30cm square crop that is 10 cm from the left and top edges of the image.

Margin: Defines the edges of the rectangular crop area as distance from sides of the image. E.g. the values Left: 10 cm, Top 10 cm, Right 10 cm, Bottom 10cm will create a crop area that is 10cm smaller than the original image on all sides.

PDF Box: The RIP may also automatically use the PDF Box in PDF files to define the crop area.

Numerical Crop values can be set to be relative to different settings:

Image Coordinates/Original: Uses the measurement unit currently set in the RIP relative to the original size of the image.

Image Coordinates/Scaled: Uses the measurement unit currently set in the RIP relative to the currently scaled size of the image.

% of Image Size: Uses percentage values to define the crop area rather than measurement units. This allows e.g. to avoid exact measurements but still get accurate positioning.
